Over 1,000 Participants Successfully Attend Jeonnam Physically Disabled Event
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] The 1st Jeollanam-do Physically Disabled Sports Competition was held at the Gangjin National Sports Center from the 29th to the 30th of last month.
About 1,000 participants, including executives and athletes from 22 cities and counties of Jeonnam physically disabled, competed in six sports events: gateball, park golf, lawn bowls, shulrun, hangung, and tuho, representing their cities and counties with honor and friendly competition.
The overall championship was won by Damyang County, with Yeonggwang County taking 2nd place, Haenam County 3rd place, and Gokseong County receiving the encouragement award. In the team category, ▲Harmony Award went to Jangseong County ▲Cheering Award was given to Gwangyang City.
Kim Ki-cheol, president of the Jeonnam Physically Disabled Association, said in his opening remarks, “Interest in exercise and health among people with disabilities is growing day by day, but social interest and support remain relatively insufficient,” adding, “We will strive to promote the rights and welfare of the physically disabled in Jeonnam.”
Kang Jin-won, president of the Gangjin County Disabled Sports Association and Gangjin County governor, said in his welcoming speech, “I am very honored that the first-ever Jeonnam Physically Disabled Sports Competition is being held in Gangjin County,” and “I send encouragement and praise to the athletes who participated with a spirit of challenge that they can do it, hoping this will be a special time of healing and happiness that unites us as one.”
