[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon Technopark (Incheon TP) announced on the 4th that it will support 30 university students to work as interns at 25 startups through the Incheon Startup Park university student internship program.
This project is one of the follow-up support programs prepared by Incheon Startup Park, which focuses on helping startups with validation, investment, and global expansion, to ensure the sustainable growth of resident and supported companies.
Since last year, Incheon Startup Park has been operating a manpower matching program linked with universities in the Incheon area, such as Incheon National University and Cheongwoon University.
At the '2022 Job Matching Fair' held in May in collaboration with Cheongwoon University, about 30 resident and supported companies of Incheon Startup Park and over 60 students participated, resulting in 20 students being selected as interns at 17 companies.
Then, in the field training program conducted with Incheon National University in July and August, 10 students were selected as interns at 8 companies and will experience corporate activities until December.
University students assigned as interns to tasks related to their majors are developing practical skills while experiencing the vibrant culture of small but strong startups. From the startups' perspective, this provides practical help by partially alleviating manpower shortages.
The wages for Cheongwoon University students are fully supported by the Ministry of Education (Korea Student Aid Foundation) through the National Education Work-Study Scholarship. For Incheon National University students, Incheon Startup Park partially supports the wages, so the company’s burden is about 570,000 KRW per month.
An official from Incheon TP said, "This program catches two rabbits: job seekers’ experience of startup culture and startups’ relief from manpower shortages," adding, "We will continue to prepare and promote various measures to support the growth of startups."
