Futsal and Sports Competitions at Large Marts... Homeplus Strengthens Offline Competitiveness A women's futsal tournament is taking place at the Homeplus Dongdaemun branch futsal court.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Homeplus announced on the 4th that it will strengthen its offline competitiveness through a ‘trendy mall’ strategy, including hosting futsal and sports tournaments.

A women’s futsal tournament was held at the futsal court of Homeplus Dongdaemun branch. The ‘H-CUP 2022 Futsal Tournament’ was fully booked within a week of opening registration, with 24 women’s teams applying.

Homeplus was the first large-scale supermarket to open a rooftop futsal court in 2016 and currently operates the largest number in the industry with 12 stores. Reservations for the futsal courts in May and June increased by about 20% compared to the same period last year. The average rental hours across 12 branches nationwide also exceeded 180 hours in July, 240 hours in August, and 300 hours in September. Accordingly, sales at Homeplus malls in August grew by about 30% compared to the same period last year.

A Homeplus official said, “Reflecting popular trends such as women’s futsal, we are preparing various mall plans that incorporate everyday life and unique experiences,” adding, “We will continue to create differentiated experiential spaces to become a Homeplus that people want to visit.”
