[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-chul] During the National Foundation Day holiday, a series of maritime accidents occurred along the East Coast of Gangwon Province.

According to Sokcho Coast Guard on the 3rd, at around 2:32 PM on the 2nd, a report was received that "five people enjoying scuba diving near Jodo Island off Sokcho Port had not surfaced even though it was past the time to come out of the water."

The Coast Guard dispatched rescue teams, Sokcho Police Station coastal rescue boats, and patrol vessels to the scene and rescued all the scuba divers found by a fishing boat.

Earlier that day, at around 11:21 AM, a report was received that a yacht (10.4 tons, 50 horsepower, 1 captain, 10 passengers) about 500 meters off Dongho Beach in Yangyang County "could not operate because debris was entangled in the screw."

The Naksan Police Station coastal rescue boat, patrol team, and patrol vessel P-88 were dispatched, rescuing all 11 people on board (including the captain) and towing the yacht to Susan Port.

A Sokcho Coast Guard official urged, "Since anything can happen at sea, we hope everyone will always follow regulations and engage in leisure activities safely."
