[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The ruling party and the government decided on the 3rd to prepare a government reorganization plan containing President Yoon Seok-yeol's presidential election pledges and to announce it soon.
On the afternoon of the 3rd, the ruling party and the government made this decision at the 5th High-level Ruling Party-Government Council held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong. Yang Geum-hee, the chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, said in a briefing after the council, "The ruling party and the government openly exchanged opinions on the direction of reorganization to fulfill the campaign pledges related to the government reorganization," adding, "Based on today's discussions, the ruling party and the government will conduct more in-depth reviews and discussions and announce the government reorganization plan soon."
Regarding the target timing for processing, she said, "Since it has not yet been proposed, it needs to be reviewed after the proposal," and added, "The content of today's meeting was that we want to do it as soon as possible."
Spokesperson Yang said, "The ruling party and the government have been communicating closely about the Government Organization Act, and accordingly, we have been coordinating the opinions of our party and the government," adding, "Today, the ruling party and the government have almost coordinated their opinions. As soon as a decision is made on that part, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to announce it as soon as possible."
Regarding cooperation plans with the opposition party, she explained, "Of course, once internal coordination is done to some extent and a plan is drafted, we think it is necessary to explain it to Park Hong-geun, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, receive his opinions, and listen carefully."
Spokesperson Yang also conveyed that all presidential campaign pledges, including the Overseas Koreans Office and the Immigration Office, were placed on the table for discussion.
However, regarding the abolition plan of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, she responded, "There are some parts that need finer adjustments, so it is difficult to say that the content was concretely concluded today." Regarding the separation plan of health and welfare, she said, "The ruling party and the government exchanged thoughts," but added, "It is difficult to say that a conclusion was reached today."
