[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, described the Board of Audit and Inspection's notification of a written investigation to former President Moon Jae-in regarding the 'West Sea Public Official Shooting Incident' as reminiscent of "Yushin-era political terror."

On the 2nd, Lee posted on Facebook, "I came across an unbelievable report that the Board of Audit and Inspection notified former President Moon of a written investigation," adding, "Various state intelligence agencies are competing in loyalty, attacking the previous government and former president, which reminds me of Yushin-era political terror."

He emphasized, "While the power entrusted by the people is being poured into political retaliation, the livelihood of the people is being pushed to the brink," and urged, "I hope you remember the history where ruthless judgment from the people always awaited at the end of power abuse."

Democratic Party lawmakers also voiced strong condemnation of the Board of Audit and Inspection. Lawmaker Chun Jun-ho wrote on Facebook, "There has never been such a ruthless regime in history," and added, "As the current administration's approval rating plummets, they are cunningly trying to overcome the crisis by 'smearing the opposition leader' and attacking the former president."

Lawmaker Jeon Yong-gi also said, "The intention to restore the rapidly plummeting approval rating by sacrificing the former president is blatant," and urged, "This is not the time to focus on controlling power institutions and political retaliation, but to shift the national administration's policy to focus on looking after and revitalizing the people's livelihood."

Park Ji-won, former director of the National Intelligence Service under the Moon Jae-in administration, also said, "On the occasion of Gaecheonjeol, I suspect the Board of Audit and Inspection is even looking for faults with Dangun Grandfather," adding, "Did the reformed National Intelligence Service of the Moon Jae-in government interfere with or tyrannize you? You should be thankful to the Moon Jae-in government."

The Board of Audit and Inspection reportedly notified former President Moon at the end of last month of a written investigation to ascertain the facts related to the 'West Sea Public Official Shooting Incident.' In this regard, the Democratic Party's Yoon Seok-yeol Regime Political Oppression Countermeasures Committee and 'Chogeumhoe,' a group of lawmakers from the Moon Jae-in administration's Blue House, plan to hold a press conference at the National Assembly on the morning of the 3rd to condemn the Board of Audit and Inspection's actions.
