Maximum Performance Achieved on S22 Plus and Z Fold4 Models
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] KT announced on the 3rd that it has launched the home Wi-Fi router 'GiGA WiFi Premium 6E (GWP 6E)' applying 'Wi-Fi 6E', the first among domestic telecom companies.
Wi-Fi 6E is an extended standard of the existing Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax). This standard supports a new frequency band, the 6GHz channel, in addition to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, reducing interference between frequencies. KT explained that Wi-Fi 6E provides speeds twice as fast as Wi-Fi 6.
Considering the increase in Wi-Fi-based devices and the growing usage of Wi-Fi routers operating on existing frequency bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz), KT planned the home GiGA WiFi Premium 6E router to offer customers a more comfortable service.
The Galaxy S22 Plus and Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold4, and Galaxy Book2 support the Wi-Fi 6E standard. Using these devices allows users to maximize the performance of the GiGA WiFi Premium 6E. The existing Wi-Fi 6 router 'GiGA WiFi Home AX' provides speeds up to 1.2Gbps, while the GiGA WiFi Premium 6E supports up to 2.4Gbps.
KT expects the GiGA WiFi Premium 6E to become the focal point of the smart home era, as demand for lag-free internet and generations wanting to decorate their homes with smart appliances increase.
The rental fee for the GiGA WiFi Premium 6E is 7,700 KRW per month (including VAT) based on a 3-year contract. When subscribing to 'Internet Super Premium' with a 3-year contract, the device is provided free of charge, and when subscribing to Internet Premium with a 3-year contract, a discount of 4,400 KRW is applied, allowing use at 3,300 KRW per month.
To commemorate this, KT will run a promotion until March 31 next year. Customers using 'Internet Premium Plus' who apply for the GiGA WiFi Premium 6E will receive a monthly discount of 16,500 KRW for three years. Detailed information and precautions can be found on the KT website.
Goo Gang-bon, Executive Director of KT Customer Business Division, said, "We prepared the GiGA WiFi Premium 6E in line with the increase in Wi-Fi-connected devices at home and the trend of consuming high-quality content," adding, "As the leading internet provider, we will continue to strengthen service competitiveness to improve the internet usage environment."
