Celebrating the 576th Hangul Day... Seoul City to Host 'Korean-Chinese Bilingual Speaking Contest' on the 8th


[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 4th that it will hold the "3rd Korea-China Bilingual Speaking Contest" on the 8th to celebrate the 576th anniversary of the creation of Hangul, where immigrant-background youth and Korean youth understand each other's cultures and grow together as global talents.


The theme of this contest is "My Friend, My Neighbor," and it will consist of positive and hopeful messages about immigrant-background youth and Korean youth growing together in harmony. The contest is divided into elementary, middle, and high school categories, and any immigrant-background youth and Korean youth who are bilingual in Korean and Chinese can participate.


The speaking contest will be held on the 8th at the Seoul Global Youth Education Center, where participants will alternate between Korean and Chinese for 5 minutes during their presentations. A total of 16 awards will be given in each category, including Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Merit Award, and Encouragement Award, based on evaluations by professional judges on site. Additionally, one participant demonstrating outstanding writing skills will receive the Best Writing Award.


Im Ji-hoon, Seoul City's Family and Multicultural Affairs Officer, said, "We hope the Korea-China Bilingual Speaking Contest will serve as a venue for immigrant-background youth and Korean youth to understand each other and interact, becoming an opportunity for them to grow together as global talents." He added, "We plan to continue offering various programs that allow immigrant-background youth to mingle with Korean youth in daily life."
