[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Rain will fall across various parts of the country, including the central west coast and the Seoul metropolitan area, from the night of the 2nd through the 4th. The northwestern region of Gyeonggi Province is expected to receive heavy rainfall exceeding 120mm.

On the 2nd, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) held an unscheduled briefing and forecasted that strong southwesterly winds will bring intensified rain clouds from the 2nd to the 3rd. Especially between the night of the 2nd and the morning of the 3rd, heavy rain of 20 to 30mm per hour is expected mainly around the Seoul metropolitan area and the central west coast.

Woo Jin-gyu, a forecast analyst at the KMA, explained, "Warm and humid air is being drawn in from the southwest along strong winds, temporarily developing intense rain clouds. There is a possibility that heavy rain warnings will be issued for some areas from the night of the 2nd to the morning of the 3rd."

More rain is expected on the 2nd and 3rd than on the 4th. In particular, rainfall exceeding 100mm is anticipated along the western coastal areas of Seoul and Gyeonggi, the western region of Chungnam, and the northwestern coast of Jeonbuk. As intense rain clouds develop in narrow zones, the duration of precipitation will lengthen, causing significant regional differences in rainfall amounts.

From the 3rd to the 4th, cold and dry air will move southward from the northwest, redeveloping rain clouds that will move from northwest to southeast, bringing rain to various areas from the central west coast to the Gyeongnam region. Between the night of the 3rd and the early morning of the 4th, concentrated heavy rain of about 20 to 30mm per hour is expected.

Especially during the two rainfall events on the 2nd-3rd and the 4th, heavy rain is expected mainly around the central west coast where rain clouds overlap, so caution is needed to prevent flood damage.

Expected rainfall amounts are over 120mm in northwestern Gyeonggi, 50 to 100mm in the Seoul metropolitan area, northern Chungnam west coast, and the five western islands of the West Sea, 30 to 80mm in Gangwon Yeongseo, southern Chungnam west coast, and inland northern Chungcheong. Gangwon Yeongdong, southern Chungnam inland, and northern Gyeongbuk are expected to receive 10 to 60mm. From the 3rd, 10 to 60mm is expected in northern Jeonbuk, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo, and 5 to 30mm in southern Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam. On the 4th, 5 to 30mm of rain will fall in southern Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, and Jeju Island.

Forecast analyst Woo said, "Strong rain clouds are expected to form from the night of the 2nd to the morning of the 3rd, with rain continuing until morning and then gradually weakening. However, rain clouds will redevelop from the night of the 3rd. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected nationwide on the 4th, and there remains a possibility of additional rainfall on the 4th."
