[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] A sentence has been handed down to a man in his 50s who stabbed an acquaintance with a weapon after arguing over not repaying 60,000 won.

On the 1st, the Criminal Division 14 of Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Ryu Kyung-jin) announced that A, who was indicted on charges of special assault, was sentenced to one year in prison with a three-year probation. The court also ordered A to undergo probation and attend 40 hours of alcohol treatment lectures.

A is accused of stabbing acquaintance B multiple times on the thigh and other areas with a weapon on the rooftop of a building in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, last June.

He reportedly claimed, "I lent B 60,000 won, but he did not repay me," and "Instead, he asked me to return the money I gave him, which made me angry."

The court explained, "The defendant’s actions to conceal the crime, such as washing the bloodstains off the weapon after the crime, show poor criminal intent," and "The motive for the crime as stated by the defendant is difficult to accept."

It added, "The defendant also failed to reach a settlement with the victim who suffered from this incident," but "considering that the crime was somewhat impulsive due to intoxication and that the defendant showed a deeply remorseful attitude," the court explained the reasons for sentencing.
