According to foreign media on the 2nd (local time), a riot occurred after the match between Arma FC and Persebaya Surabaya held in East Java, causing at least 127 fatalities. The number of injured is estimated to be 180.


The match ended with Arma losing 3-2 at home, which led to thousands of excited spectators storming the stadium. Supporters of the opposing team also poured into the stadium in response.


The police attempted to suppress the riot by firing tear gas, and hundreds of panicked people ran toward the exits to avoid the tear gas, resulting in a large number of deaths due to crowd crush. Local police reported that 34 people died on the scene, and including those who died while receiving treatment at hospitals, at least 127 people lost their lives. Among the deceased were two police officers. It is also reported that deaths continue to occur among the injured receiving treatment at hospitals.


An official from Malang Regency stated, "Many people died as the crowd crushed and suffocated each other," and added, "Hundreds were injured and transported to nearby hospitals."
