Enjoy the Old Charm of Deoksugung Stone Wall Road... Jung-gu Improves Pedestrian Environment on Deoksugung-gil The appearance of Deoksugung Section 2 after improvement

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gilsung) completed the project to connect the Deoksugung Stone Wall Road pedestrian path in the Jeong-dong area by the end of September.

To improve the pedestrian path around Deoksugung-gil, which was narrow and old, causing inconvenience in passage, the district worked for two years on the 0.5 km section from Deoksu Elementary School to the Jeong-dong Fountain. The budget of 2.1 billion KRW was secured through consultation with Seoul City and city funds.

Once the landscape lighting improvement work is completed in early October, it is expected that the nighttime atmosphere of the stone wall road under the soft lighting will become even more profound.

In 2021, the walking environment was fully improved from Deoksu Elementary School to Gojong's Road. Both sidewalks were reconstructed into a single sidewalk, doubling the width to a maximum of 4.4 meters, allowing for a much more comfortable walk. Fences for pedestrians were also installed, greatly changing the appearance of the wall. Thanks to this, the commute for Deoksu Elementary School students has become safer and more pleasant.

The atmosphere of the ‘Jeong-dong Modern History Road’ trail was also renewed. Considering harmony with the surroundings, pavement materials in calm colors were used. The fence of Deoksu Elementary School was unified by using brick-colored tiles matching the adjacent Salvation Army History Museum.

In 2022, the existing pedestrian path connecting the Deoksugung Stone Wall Road from the Jeong-dong Fountain to Gojong's Road was extended, and a new sidewalk was constructed. Pedestrian safety fences were installed, and the existing asphalt-paved road was completely repaved with concrete blocks to enhance pedestrian convenience.

District Mayor Kim Gilsung said, “The charming Deoksugung Stone Wall Road has become even more walkable through the pedestrian path improvement project. We hope couples and families enjoy a comfortable stroll along the stone wall road and appreciate the autumn atmosphere.”
