Seoul Metro - Korea Elevator Safety Corporation Efforts to Achieve Zero Major Accidents in Seoul Subway

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul Metro Corporation signed a business agreement with the Korea Elevator Safety Agency, which oversees domestic elevator safety management projects, on September 30.

The two organizations will jointly work to ensure the safety of aging elevators in the subway and improve their quality.

Through this agreement, the Corporation and the Agency will jointly promote ▲ cooperation to enhance the safety and quality of subway elevators ▲ collaboration to achieve ZERO major accidents in the elevator sector ▲ data sharing and technical exchange for elevator operation and maintenance.

The Corporation plans to introduce a quality safety inspection system for aging elevators as well as new and replacement elevators within subway stations through this agreement. After replacing aging elevators or installing new ones, the Agency, which has accumulated expertise and technology regarding elevators, will inspect product performance and other aspects.

This proactive approach will prepare for risk factors and further strengthen user safety, preventing elevator accidents that could potentially escalate into serious incidents.

The two organizations will also provide technical support such as training to improve job competencies and work together to create a safer subway environment.

Additionally, through this business agreement, the two organizations will expand data and technical exchanges for elevator operation and maintenance. This is expected to enable stable elevator operation and allow for prompt response in case of operational failures.

Kim Seong-ryeol, Head of Technology at Seoul Metro Corporation, stated, “Through the business agreement with the Agency, we can exchange expertise and technological capabilities between the two organizations,” and added, “We will do our best to improve the quality of aging elevators within stations and prevent major accidents.”
