[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Lotte Department Store announced on the 3rd that it will hold a 'City Plogging' event on the 4th and 5th in downtown areas with heavy foot traffic such as City Hall, Jongno, and Cheonggyecheon. City plogging is an activity to clean up litter discarded in urban areas.

A Reals Market booth will be set up on the east side of City Hall to lend plogging tools such as tongs and biodegradable bags to citizens, and various goods will be given according to the amount of trash collected by participants. The goods are eco-friendly themed products, including a total of 17 items such as bamboo toothbrushes and vegan granola.

The plogging event will continue on the 9th in collaboration with the Jjinple Market of the Ttubok Ttubok Festival, Seoul's representative Hangang Festival. At this festival, a Reals Market booth will also be opened to encourage citizens to participate in environmental cleanup activities around Jamsu Bridge and the Hangang River area.

A special event is also prepared for customers participating in City Plogging. By posting photos from the event on Instagram with the hashtags ‘Reals’ and ‘RealsWeek’ by the 9th, participants will be entered into a draw to win Lotte mobile gift certificates worth 20,000 won.

Earlier, Lotte Department Store conducted a 'Beachcombing' project in August at Woljeong-ri Beach in Jeju Island and Junggwangjeong Beach in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, which involved cleaning up discarded trash and driftwood washed ashore.

A Lotte Department Store official said, “The Beachcombing event held at summer resorts saw high participation enthusiasm from the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z). We hope that this autumn City Plogging event, held in downtown areas including tourist districts, will provide an opportunity for more citizens to recognize the importance of environmental protection.”
