[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the morning of the 30th, Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, visited the exhibition hall of the 7th Yeongdeungpo Architecture Culture Festival held at Mullae-dong Art Field Gallery.
Hosted by the Yeongdeungpo District Architects Association, this event was organized to inform residents about the history and development of Yeongdeungpo architecture and to broaden the base of architectural culture.
Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “It feels even more meaningful that the Architecture Culture Festival is held in Mullae-dong, the center of Yeongdeungpo’s architectural history and transformation,” adding, “I hope many residents visit, broaden their understanding of architecture, and take time to envision a new future for Yeongdeungpo’s architectural culture.”
Seocho District (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) held the 26th Senior Citizens Day commemorative event, combining a presentation and exhibition for ‘active seniors,’ on the morning of the 30th at Seocho Culture and Arts Center.
Held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19, this event was prepared to provide seniors with enjoyable cultural performances and to present awards to those who contributed to the development of senior welfare. Along with commemorative speeches and award ceremonies, various programs such as K-POP gymnastics, Korean traditional dance, Julie harp performances, and line dancing were presented by seniors. On the first floor of the district office, Seocho Plaza, an exhibition showcased seniors’ refined skills in calligraphy, watercolor paintings, and more.
Additionally, awards were presented to exemplary seniors and contributors to senior welfare who have worked hard for Seocho District. For example, Senior Song OO was recommended for actively participating in talent donation and volunteer activities using his calligraphy skills. Welfare contributor Moon OO was recognized for 23 years of dedicated service as a life support worker, striving to eliminate blind spots in senior care throughout the community. Besides them, three other seniors and one welfare contributor who contributed to community development also received awards as tokens of appreciation.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su of Seocho District said, “Today, I feel the passion and vibrant energy of our seniors for culture,” and added, “We will create a Seocho where all seniors are happy today and look forward to tomorrow.”
On the morning of the 30th at 10:30, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the “A Precious Day - Exciting Junghyun Traditional Play Festival” held at Junghyun Elementary School.
“A Precious Day” is an educational participation activity where parents directly plan and conduct programs linked to the curriculum. It helps form cooperative relationships between parents and schools, activates community connections, and contributes to building a community education system by creating networks among parents.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok participated in activities such as rice cake making, Yutnori (traditional Korean board game), and archery, enjoying a fun time with the children.
This year, “A Precious Day” is being held at a total of 15 schools (11 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 2 high schools), with over 8,100 parents, students, and teachers participating in the educational programs.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon District said, “I hope parents experience the joy of participating in education through this project and feel pride as an educational stakeholder,” adding, “We will continue to actively support the realization of an educational community where schools and parents work together.”
Gangseo District, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) held the “26th Senior Citizens Day Commemorative Award Ceremony” at the mayor’s office at 2 p.m. on the 30th.
The district recognized eight exemplary seniors who have devoted themselves to society and neighbors with a spirit of sacrifice and service, serving as role models, and four contributors to senior welfare who have devoted themselves to improving senior welfare and serving disadvantaged seniors.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “The reason we can live so prosperously today is because of the seniors who continuously worked hard and devoted themselves despite poverty and difficult circumstances,” adding, “I express my gratitude and respect for the seniors’ efforts, and the district will do its best to enhance welfare so that seniors can enjoy a happy old age.”
Mapo District (Mayor Park Kang-soo) held a Senior Citizens Day commemorative event hosted by Uri Mapo Welfare Center on the morning of the 30th to celebrate the 26th Senior Citizens Day.
About 500 people, including Mayor Park Kang-soo and local residents, attended the event, which featured congratulatory speeches and celebratory performances for Senior Citizens Day. Among the special events was the “Samsik-i Cooking Sharing Event,” a cooking contest designed to encourage retired middle-aged men, which received great enthusiasm from participating residents.
Mayor Park Kang-soo said in his greeting, “We are able to enjoy today’s freedom and abundance thanks to the sacrifices and dedication of our seniors,” and added, “Mapo District will continue to implement various welfare projects so that seniors can live healthy and happy lives.”
As a key senior welfare policy in the 8th term of the civilian administration, Mapo District is promoting the “Participation Meal Service for Residents Aged 75 and Older.” This policy aims to provide seniors with balanced meals to prevent malnutrition and use meal service locations as communication spaces for seniors to prevent depression and solitary deaths.
Jung District, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-sung) held a vehicle delivery and unveiling ceremony for the Jung District Food Bank in cooperation with the International Lions Club District 354-A on the morning of the 26th.
Upon hearing that the food bank vehicle used by the district had become outdated, the International Lions Club District 354-A produced and donated a food bank vehicle worth approximately 27.4 million KRW.
With this, the Jung District Food Bank Market Center will be able to deliver food and daily necessities more safely and quickly to residents with mobility difficulties and welfare facilities.
Mayor Kim Gil-sung said, “I express my gratitude to the International Lions Club for their help during difficult times. We will load food onto the new vehicle and deliver it promptly to neighbors in need.”
