Yeosu City Announces Recipients of the '2022 Yeosu Citizen Award' and 'Proud Yeosu People' Honors


[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 30th that it has finalized the recipients of this year’s ‘Yeosu Citizen Award’ and ‘Proud Yeosu People (3 persons).’


The ‘Yeosu Citizen Award’ was given to Ko Hyo-ju, Chairman of the 6.25 War Veteran Student Soldiers Memorial Association, and the ‘Proud Yeosu People’ were awarded to former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joo Seung-yong, Anseong Mayor Kim Bo-ra, and Director Cha Jeong-hwan of the Korean Cultural Heritage Photography Research Institute, respectively.


Ko Hyo-ju, the recipient of the ‘Yeosu Citizen Award,’ was recognized for his contributions to raising local security awareness by leading various patriotic and veterans’ events and promoting a city-wide movement to designate patriotic sites as national cultural assets.


Joo Seung-yong, former National Assembly Deputy Speaker and selected as a ‘Proud Yeosu Person,’ served as Yeocheon County Governor and the mayor of the integrated Yeosu City, laying the foundation for today’s regional development. In particular, he was acknowledged for his achievement as the first person from Yeosu to serve as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, greatly enhancing the honor of his hometown.


Kim Bo-ra, Mayor of Anseong, previously served as a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council and, during her tenure as Anseong Mayor, has increased citizens’ happiness index through various policies and projects, raising pride as a person from Yeosu living outside the city.


Cha Jeong-hwan, Director of the Korean Cultural Heritage Photography Research Institute, was selected as a ‘Proud Yeosu Person’ for his significant contributions to the development and promotion of local culture and arts through his extensive activities as a photographer.


Meanwhile, Yeosu City plans to present plaques and express gratitude at the Yeosu Citizens’ Day ceremony on October 14, which will be broadcast live on YouTube.
