[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] A man in his 60s who was stranded on a rocky shore while fishing late at night was safely rescued by the Coast Guard.

According to Mokpo Coast Guard Station on the 30th, at around 1:29 a.m. that day, tourist A (male, in his 60s), who was fishing on the rocky shore near Gamami Beach in Yeonggwang County, was stranded after failing to notice the rising seawater.

Upon receiving the report, the Coast Guard immediately dispatched the Yeonggwang Police Substation’s coastal rescue boat to the scene, found the stranded A, and safely rescued him within about 30 minutes of the report using a rescue slipway (multipurpose lifesaving equipment).

The rescued A arrived at Gyema Port via the coastal rescue boat and was handed over to the 119 emergency medical team; it was confirmed that he had no health issues.

A Mokpo Coast Guard official said, “There is a high risk of safety accidents such as being stranded or slipping on the coast or rocky shores at night, so please refrain from such activities as much as possible,” and added, “To prepare for accidents, it is essential to carry a mobile phone and to carefully check various information such as local weather and tide conditions in advance.”
