[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] SK Innovation announced on the 30th that its subsidiary SK Lubricants' handball team SK Sugar Gliders will participate in the 5th Asia Women's Handball Club Championship, held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from the 1st to the 9th of next month.
The Asia Women's Handball Club Championship is hosted by the Asian Handball Federation and is an annual tournament where the top club teams from each Asian country gather to compete for the women's club championship.
This year, 7 teams from 6 countries including Korea, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, Iran, and Kuwait will participate. The winning team will earn the right to participate in next year's World Women's Handball Club Championship (Super Glove).
Kim Kyung-jin, the new head coach of SK, said, "Our goal is to win this tournament, which is the first time a domestic team is participating, to secure a spot in the World Women's Handball Club Championship and to prove that Korean women's handball is the strongest in Asia."
SK also plans to carry out promotional activities supporting the 2030 Busan Expo bid in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where Asian handball officials and teams will gather.
The SK Secretariat stated, "We will install a Busan Expo support banner in English inside the Almaty gymnasium, and the players will wear uniforms with the Busan Expo emblem patch during the games. We will also distribute gifts during the match ceremonies with teams from each country and hand out English promotional booklets for the Busan Expo received from Busan Metropolitan City to the officials, players, and local fans attending the Asia Club Championship to promote the event."
