[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Hyundai Department Store Group announced on the 29th that it will prepare a sincere compensation plan regarding the fire incident at Hyundai Premium Outlet Daejeon Branch.


Hyundai Department Store Group explained that it is actively engaging in compensation discussions with the bereaved families of the deceased in this fire. The group is visiting the families at their preferred time and place to listen to their requests and is covering all funeral expenses.


They also stated plans to provide appropriate compensation to partner companies operating in the Daejeon branch. Since no sales are occurring due to business suspension, compensation will include business loss, and efforts will be made to assess the extent of the damage.


Hyundai Department Store Group said, “We plan to pay subcontracting fees to ensure that subcontractor employees do not face issues with salary payments due to the suspension of operations at the Daejeon branch,” adding, “We also plan to prepare additional support measures for subcontractor employees involved in existing facilities, cleaning, and security.”


On the morning of the 26th, a large fire broke out on the basement level 1 of Hyundai Outlet Daejeon Branch, resulting in the deaths of seven employees including environmental cleaning and facility management staff, and leaving one person in an unconscious state.
