On the morning of the 29th at Samsung Biologics headquarters' Global Hall in Songdo, Incheon, President John Rim, dressed in jeans and affectionately called 'Jon-hyung,' took the stage in front of about 200 employees. That day, Samsung Biologics held an unscripted talk show called 'Real Talk' to enable open communication between the CEO and employees. Not only those on-site but also employees who could not attend in person showed great interest by posting numerous questions and comments through internal broadcasting and online live streaming.
President John Rim introduced himself by saying, "I came here to have an open and candid conversation without formality." During the approximately one-hour event, 15 questions were raised covering topics from Samsung Biologics' management strategy to wage and bonus plans, and President Rim and the management team answered them directly.
In response to the question, "Many companies are entering the bio industry recently; what do you think is our unique competitive advantage?" John Rim answered, "Above all, our employees are our greatest competitive advantage," adding, "I have worked at many companies, but I have never met employees with greater ability, passion, and execution than ours."
Regarding the question, "Are there opportunities for overseas training or overseas assignments?" he said, "We are continuously considering it," and added, "If the company expands overseas, opportunities for overseas assignments will naturally increase, and we plan to continue creating educational opportunities linked with external universities."
To the question, "The number of new employees has recently increased a lot; do you have any advice or expectations for them?" he advised, "Learn through mistakes and ask questions constantly if you don't know something," and encouraged, "Since the best talents have joined, do not be afraid and take on challenges." He also answered candidly questions about bonuses, wage increases, thoughts on the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z), and welfare.
