[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has anticipated traffic inconveniences across the downtown area due to conservative group rallies, including the Liberty Unification Party, expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees on National Foundation Day, October 3rd. They urged citizens to use public transportation as much as possible.
According to the police on the 30th, a stage for the rally will be set up around Donghwa Duty-Free Shop in the morning of October 3rd, and a large-scale rally is scheduled for the afternoon along Sejong-daero. The section from Sejong Intersection to Daehanmun will operate variable lanes, prohibiting left turns and U-turns at Sejong R, Daehanmun R, and allowing only straight traffic. Additionally, some conservative groups plan a march returning from Sejong R to Jonggak R and Han Eun R, which is expected to cause vehicle congestion in the downtown area.
To minimize traffic congestion and citizen inconvenience on the day of the rally, the police plan to install 40 guide signboards around the rally and march routes and deploy about 300 personnel, including traffic police, to manage traffic by directing vehicle detours. A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official stated, "Since vehicle congestion is expected at major downtown intersections, please use detours and public transportation such as the subway, and if driving is unavoidable, follow detour routes and the traffic police's hand signals carefully."
