Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee Holds 3rd Practical Meeting with Related Agencies... Establishing a Systematic Alternative System

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee announced on the 30th that it held the 3rd Practical Cooperation Meeting with related organizations on the 29th, attended by officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and the Police University Institute of Police Policy Research.

At this meeting, under the theme of "Establishing a Systematic Security System for a Safer Seoul," various opinions were presented, including the participation of experts in crime prevention in the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Architectural Committee and joint discussions on the construction and utilization of Seoul's smart security data.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency proposed collaboration to create a crime prevention environment, such as institutional improvements to allow crime prevention experts to participate in the city and district architectural committees to prevent residential intrusion crimes. In response, the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Architectural Planning Division agreed to accompany the creation of a safer architectural environment in Seoul by including crime prevention experts when appointing members to the city and district architectural committees, upon recommendations from the Autonomous Police Committee and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.

The Police University Institute of Police Policy Research introduced the "Smart Security Big Data-based (Platform) Service," which is being promoted in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Big Data Officer and local communities, and introduced "Smart Security," which has recently become a global police policy trend.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Big Data Officer stated that the application and expansion of digital technology are necessary to protect citizens' safe lives and requested active cooperation from security-related organizations such as the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. It was explained that by sharing and integrating administrative and security public data held by each agency using Seoul's big data system, community-oriented crime prevention services by the autonomous police can be realized.

Accordingly, the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee empathized with the need for new utilization of security information and statistics in line with institutional and environmental changes and stated that it will strive to create a security environment where citizens can feel safe by leading smart security cooperation between local communities and the police in the future.

Co-chairmen Kim Seong-seop, Secretary-General of the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee, and Kim Soo-young, Public Safety Deputy Chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, said, "There can be no difference between the city and the police in crime prevention activities for citizen safety," and added, "We appreciate the various security collaborations and ask that good ideas be encouraged and problems be negotiated to create a safer Seoul."
