[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] Kim Dong-yeon, the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who achieved a last-minute comeback victory in the highly contested Gyeonggi gubernatorial election during the June 1 local elections, reported assets worth 3.89 billion KRW.

According to the asset registration details of newly elected officials from the June 1 local elections, published in the government gazette by the Government Official Ethics Committee on the 30th, as of July 1 this year, Governor Kim owns buildings including apartments under his and his spouse’s names worth 2.711 billion KRW, and deposits amounting to 1.22568 billion KRW.

Among the 13 metropolitan governors subject to reporting, Kim’s assets ranked third after Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Province (4.13911 billion KRW), and Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu (4.09627 billion KRW). At the time of candidate registration for the local elections, Kim had reported assets of 4.05354 billion KRW.

Among the 23 newly registered basic local government heads in the Gyeonggi region, Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, ranked first with assets worth 4.6948 billion KRW. For Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly members, Kim Sung-soo (People Power Party, Hanam 2) had the highest assets at 27.1413 billion KRW, followed by Jo Hee-sun (People Power Party, proportional representation) with 9.71641 billion KRW, and Oh Jun-hwan (People Power Party, Goyang 7) with 7.96548 billion KRW.
