[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The suspect in the case of the murder of a gosiwon building owner in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, has been detained.

On the 29th, Kim Sang-woo, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, held a pre-arrest interrogation (warrant review) for Son Mo, a man in his 30s accused of robbery and murder, and issued an arrest warrant, stating "there is a risk of flight."

Earlier, Son, who appeared for the warrant review, responded "I'm sorry" when asked by reporters if he had anything to say to the bereaved families. He did not answer questions such as "Why did you commit murder?", "Do you admit to the charge of robbery and murder?", "Did you kill to steal money?", "Was it a planned crime?", "Why did you bind the victim?", "Why did you go to a sauna immediately after the crime?", and "You even reduced the rent; do you feel no remorse?"

Son is accused of killing a 74-year-old woman, the owner of the gosiwon where he lived in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 27th, and stealing her card, bankbook, and about 100,000 won in cash before fleeing.

The victim was found dead with her hands tied in the basement floor of the four-story gosiwon in Sillim-dong at around 12:48 p.m. on the 27th.

The police tracked the suspect's movements by reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and arrested Son at a sauna in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, around 10 p.m. on the same day.

The National Forensic Service conducted an autopsy on the victim and gave a preliminary verbal opinion that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to neck compression (strangulation).

Son was found to have no particular occupation and had not used the stolen valuables.
