[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] It has been reported that a landmine exploded near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine.
On the 28th (local time), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated in a press release, "A landmine exploded about 50 meters away from the fence of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant," adding, "It is understood that the explosion was triggered when an animal touched the landmine while moving."
Additionally, the IAEA said, "There were two explosions in the landmine-laying area near the nuclear power plant on the morning of the previous day," and "The explosion shattered windows of the building housing the reactor turbines, but no damage occurred to the core facilities."
The IAEA emphasized, "Although this explosion did not cause significant damage, it once again reminds us that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is exposed to danger."
Meanwhile, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, has experienced multiple shelling incidents since August. The IAEA is currently negotiating with Russia and Ukraine to urgently establish the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant area as a demilitarized safety zone.
