[Asia Economy Reporter Tae-min Ryu] An ozone advisory was issued across the entire Seoul area on the afternoon of the 29th.
The Seoul Institute of Health and Environment issued an ozone advisory for the southwestern region at 3 PM that day, followed by additional advisories at 4 PM for the downtown and northwestern regions, and at 5 PM for the southeastern and northeastern regions. Seoul city issues an advisory when the one-hour average ozone concentration in the autonomous districts within the respective regions reaches 0.120 ppm or higher.
As of 4 PM that day, the highest ozone concentrations by region were 0.122 ppm in the downtown area (Yongsan) and 0.125 ppm in the northwestern area (Mapo). At 3 PM, the southwestern area (Gangseo) recorded a peak concentration of 0.139 ppm.
Repeated exposure to high concentrations of ozone can irritate the respiratory system and eyes, causing inflammation and, in severe cases, respiratory disorders. The institute urged, "Children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases should refrain from outdoor activities."
