Hopeful Stepping Stone Project for Local Children... Now in Its 5th Year
Comprising Rehabilitation Programs with Experts and Emotional Healing Programs
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks announced that on the 28th, it held the launch ceremony of the ‘Bridge of Hope’ program supporting the emotional stability of local children with special disabilities at the Gwangyang Childcare Comprehensive Support Center auditorium.
About 80 people attended the ceremony, including Jeong Inhwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, Lee Cheolho, Deputy Head of Gwangyang Steelworks, Seo Youngbae, Chairman of Gwangyang City Council, Kang Yongjae, Executive Director of Gwangyang City Children’s Care Foundation, and volunteer staff.
The Bridge of Hope project is operated with financial support from the ‘POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation,’ funded by 1% of POSCO employees’ salaries, ‘POSCO Humans,’ a subsidiary-type standard workplace for the disabled established by POSCO as the first in Korea, and the Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority. This year marks its 5th term.
The project consists of rehabilitation programs to aid children’s physical development and forest experience programs for emotional stability, provided to about 145 children with special disabilities.
The rehabilitation program, led by professional counselors, offers music therapy, art therapy, sensory function enhancement activities using equipment, and customized special exercise therapy to support the children’s physical health.
In particular, the forest experience program for emotional support involves the ‘Bridge of Hope Volunteer Group’ composed of Gwangyang Steelworks employees, who help children enjoy the program more safely and joyfully, giving the program significant meaning.
Jeong Inhwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, who participated in the launch ceremony, said, “I hope the children, who are the future leaders of Gwangyang City, grow brighter through this project,” and added, “I am grateful to POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks for continuing such a meaningful project.”
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is actively striving to realize a company that works with the local community by presenting a model where business and society develop together, such as by personally making and donating customized furniture for local children and delivering mobile vehicles to local children’s centers.
