[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The 8th Kyobo Handwriting Contest winners (groups) have been announced, hosted by the Handwriting Culture Promotion Committee and jointly organized by Kyobo Bookstore, Daesan Foundation, and Kyobo Life Insurance. There are ten Grand Prize winners, twenty Excellence Prize winners, five group awards, and six judges' awards.
The oldest Grand Prize winner is Kim Hyenam (82). Quoting "Food and Sentences" (Nakagawa Hideko), she said, "I thought passing the preliminary round was already amazing, so I am happy to receive the award," and added, "It seems to be the result of copying the Bible into a notebook, one character at a time, for more than twenty years after retirement, spending over three hours daily."
Judge Yoo Ji-won, a typographer, commented, "The handwriting that stirred the judges from the preliminary round," and described it as "concise and prim, with fresh elasticity in the curves."
The ten Grand Prize winners will receive a certificate, a Kyobo Bookstore gift certificate worth 500,000 KRW, and a Monami 60th Anniversary desk pen as prizes. The twenty Excellence Prize winners will receive a certificate, a gift certificate worth 200,000 KRW, and a Monami 153 ID Healing Pen. The five group award winners will receive a certificate, 200,000 KRW in cash, and a handwritten nameplate designed with calligraphy of the participating group's name. The six judges' award winners, each selected by a judge, will receive a certificate and a Kyobo Bookstore gift certificate worth 100,000 KRW.
The winning works will be exhibited from the 3rd of next month until October 31st at the Internet Kyobo Bookstore and the Kauri Table at Kyobo Bookstore Gwanghwamun branch.
