[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun (Governor Kang Jongman) announced on the 29th that it selected 635 scholarship students from elementary, middle, high school, and university students who are children of residents living in Baeksu-eup, Hongnong-eup, and Beopseong-myeon, areas surrounding the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant, and paid scholarships totaling about 332 million KRW.
The selected recipients include academically excellent students and those with special talents in arts and physical education, as well as students from disadvantaged backgrounds such as persons with disabilities, single-parent families, and basic livelihood security recipients. Scholarships of 200,000 KRW for elementary and middle school students, 300,000 KRW for high school students, and up to 1,000,000 KRW for university students were provided.
The selected scholarship students consist of 72 elementary students, 161 middle school students, 130 high school students, and 272 university students, totaling 635.
The county expects this to provide some help to residents experiencing economic difficulties due to COVID-19.
The scholarship selection results can be confirmed on the county office website's notice board, and the scholarships were individually paid to the accounts provided in the applications.
According to the Act on Support for Areas Surrounding Power Plants, the county has been providing scholarships annually based on first semester grades, and in accordance with the national scholarship program's policy to prevent duplicate support, payments are restricted if other scholarships have been received.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the county office's Safety Management Division.
