[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] A woman in her 30s who was stabbed by a high school classmate after stalking has regained consciousness after being taken to the hospital.

On the 29th, the Daegu Gangbuk Police Station announced, "As the victim, who was hospitalized for treatment, has regained consciousness, we plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident."

Earlier, on the 27th, a man in his 30s, Mr. A, was arrested by the police on suspicion of attempted murder near Gukwoo Tunnel in Buk-gu, Daegu.

Mr. A is accused of stabbing Ms. B, a woman in her 30s and his high school classmate, multiple times with a weapon he had prepared in advance.

On the 25th, Mr. A also threatened to set fire to Ms. B's house and was found to have directly called or visited Ms. B's family, causing harm.

At that time, the police conducted patrols and protective measures at Ms. B's house for about an hour and issued six warnings to Mr. A via phone, written notices, and face-to-face meetings as a 'date violence and stalking offender.'

Subsequently, the police provided Ms. B with a personal protection device (smartwatch) and intended to apply stalking crime charges against Mr. A, but the investigation was closed as Ms. B did not wish to press charges. Under current law, stalking crimes are considered 'offenses requiring the victim's complaint,' meaning that if the victim expresses a desire not to prosecute, the perpetrator cannot be punished.
