Gyeonggi-do, Standing Tall as an Environmental Education City

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has been selected as an 'Environmental Education City.'

On the 29th, Gyeonggi Province announced that the Ministry of Environment has selected it as an Environmental Education City, a designation given to outstanding metropolitan and local governments based on their environmental education performance evaluations since 2020, providing administrative and financial support.

Designated Environmental Education Cities receive a certificate and a plaque and are supported by the Ministry of Environment with a budget for environmental education tailored to regional characteristics for three years.

Prior to the designation, the province enacted an environmental education ordinance and established a dedicated organization. To enhance the professionalism and efficiency of the project, it established the Gyeonggi Environment and Energy Promotion Institute, designated as the Gyeonggi Province Environmental Education Center, thereby strengthening the foundation for environmental education.

Going forward, the province plans to promote 'customized environmental education for residents' through ▲ strengthening environmental education for residents in connection with city/county and basic environmental education centers ▲ expanding support for school environmental education through cooperation with the Office of Education ▲ designating and supporting social environmental education institutions.

Um Jin-seop, Director of the Provincial Environment Bureau, said, "The designation as an Environmental Education City is the result of the province's proactive implementation of various policies to revitalize environmental education," adding, "Taking this designation as an opportunity, we will establish an environmental education model so that all residents can receive desired environmental education anytime and anywhere throughout their life cycle."

Meanwhile, the province will hold a proclamation ceremony for the Environmental Education City designation at the 'Gyeonggi Environmental Education Festival' to be held at the Suwon Convention Center on the 19th of next month.
