[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] A 'spokesperson' will be introduced to the National Assembly standing committees. The public communication system will be expanded, including real-time YouTube broadcasts of the National Assembly inspection and pilot live broadcasts of seminars held by members' offices.
On the 29th, Lee Kwang-jae, Secretary General of the National Assembly, revealed plans to significantly expand the communication system with the public and the media during a National Assembly briefing.
First, a spokesperson will be appointed for each standing committee to strengthen communication with the media. A Committee Media Support Officer (also known as 'Committee Spokesperson') will be designated from among the committee administrative directors and senior managers (grade 3-4) within the National Assembly to be responsible for mandatory preparation of public policy press releases, supporting coverage by National Assembly reporters, and assisting in holding annual committee summary meetings.
Regarding the upcoming National Assembly inspection next month, the number of National Assembly YouTube relay channels will be expanded from two to four.
Additionally, for the more than five seminars held daily by members' offices, a system will be piloted this year to enable live broadcasts from three seminar rooms without the need to visit the National Assembly, with plans to expand this to all seminar rooms in the Members' Office Building in the future.
Since Lee's appointment, the National Assembly has been promoting measures to strengthen communication and publicity with the public and the media. In his inaugural speech, Lee stated, “I will strive to ensure that the legislative activities and policy seminars of the 300 National Assembly members are more widely disseminated and understood by the public.”
Lee emphasized, “A first-class National Assembly creates a first-class nation, and to become a first-class National Assembly, it must communicate with the people,” adding, “A National Assembly that communicates with the people will give birth to a National Assembly where the collective intelligence of the people is realized.”
