[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Kim Byeong-nae, Mayor of Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, was elected as the Vice President of the "8th Term Korea Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads Association," which is composed of 226 basic local government heads nationwide.
According to Nam-gu on the 29th, the Korea Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads Association held the "1st Joint Chairpersons Meeting" at the Garden Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul, in the afternoon, where they completed the formation of the executive team for the first half of the 8th term association.
The meeting was attended by 15 chairpersons of city and provincial associations, including Kim Byeong-nae, Chairman of the Gwangju Metropolitan City District Heads Association, representing their respective regions.
In accordance with the association's bylaws, the joint chairpersons elected Jo Jae-gu, Mayor of Nam-gu, Daegu, as the representative of the Korea Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads Association.
Additionally, Kim Byeong-nae, Mayor of Nam-gu, was elected as Vice President, deemed suitable to manage the association's operations and finances.
Mayor Kim stated, "Through joint cooperation and mutual development among local governments, we must transfer the excessively centralized authority from the central government to local governments while also reducing dependence on the central government. I will faithfully perform my role as Vice President to open an era of balanced regional development and local government empowerment."
Meanwhile, the Korea Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads Association is responsible for proposing policies related to national decentralization, major initiatives, and the enactment and revision of related laws, as well as voicing opinions. It started as the National Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads in 2000 and changed its name to the Korea Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads Association in January this year.
