[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed on the 29th his intention to push forward with the vote on the motion to dismiss Foreign Minister Park Jin.
After the plenary session was adjourned that day, Park told reporters, "In the morning, Speaker Kim Jin-pyo is expected to create a meeting for floor leaders of both ruling and opposition parties, either through their own agreement or mediation," adding, "There, the final positions of both sides will be confirmed and the legislative schedule will be finalized." He said, "Since both sides' positions have already been confirmed, there is no possibility of change," and "As soon as a meeting between the floor leaders of both parties is arranged, we plan to convey our intentions and request the Speaker to handle it as quickly as possible today."
Regarding Minister Park's statement that he would follow the will of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has the authority to appoint him, Park Hong-geun raised an issue.
He pointed out, "Minister Park said that the situation worsened due to the President's slip of the tongue and false explanations, and although he was inexperienced as an ambassador early in the administration and was caught up in Japan's ploy, he asked for a chance and apologized. That would have been sufficient. But a few days ago, he said he had no intention to resign regarding the unresolved motion to dismiss, didn't he? His attitude is wrong," he criticized.
Regarding the motion to dismiss, Park said, "As a legislative body representing the people, the National Assembly submits it to the government, and the judgment is the President's responsibility," adding, "Simply dismissing the proposal and processing of the motion to dismiss in a minority ruling and majority opposition situation as mere political strife only proves that they have failed to properly anticipate the public's anger and disappointment."
