[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] The 8th Primary Care Academic Award, organized by Handok and the Korean Academy of Family Medicine, has selected the Primary Care Dementia Research Group under the Korean Academy of Family Medicine as the award-winning organization, and Professors Jeong-Eun Yoo from Seoul National University Hospital and Seo-Young Kang from Asan Medical Center as the award recipients.
The Primary Care Academic Award was jointly established by Handok and the Korean Academy of Family Medicine in 2015. It is awarded to physicians who have made outstanding achievements in academic and research fields related to primary care and contributed to the development of national primary care. This year, recipients were selected in both research and academic categories.
The Primary Care Dementia Research Group, selected as the award-winning organization in the research category, is a research group under the Korean Academy of Family Medicine created to explore the role of primary care physicians in dementia in response to Korea's rapidly advancing super-aging society. The group plans and conducts research related to dementia and cognitive function to enable primary care to contribute to dementia diagnosis and treatment.
The academic award recipients are Professors Jeong-Eun Yoo and Seo-Young Kang. Professor Jeong-Eun Yoo conducted research on the reduction of dementia risk according to changes in physical activity in diabetic patients. Professor Seo-Young Kang was selected this year for her analytical study on the association between fasting blood glucose levels and metabolic diseases in adults without a history of diabetes.
The award ceremony will be held on the 1st of next month at the Swiss Grand Hotel in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Awardees will receive the Yakyeontap trophy and a monetary prize.
