To Understand Technology Trends... UNIST Holds AI Technology Open Workshop Promotional Poster for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology Open Workshop.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] UNIST will hold a specialized academic conference on artificial intelligence (AI) to promote AI technology development and nurture innovative talent in the southeastern region, accelerating related industrial innovation.

On October 6, the ‘2022 UNIST AI Technology Open Workshop’ will be held again this year at the UNIST main campus auditorium, following last year’s event.

The workshop, running from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, will feature a total of 11 participants including domestic and international AI experts and UNIST professors, who will present the latest AI technology trends and UNIST’s research achievements.

This year’s workshop is organized into a diverse program including keynote speeches by overseas scholars, special lectures by domestic experts, and panel discussions between attendees and experts, with an expanded scale and deeper content compared to last year.

In the keynote speeches, Professor Zhu Junyan from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States and Research Director Liu Mingyu from NVIDIA, a world-leading company in AI computing, will introduce the latest AI technologies such as deep generative models and deep image generation techniques.

Domestically, Director Bae Soonmin of KT AI2XL Research Center and Dr. Yoon Sangdoo of Naver AI Research will deliver special lectures.

Director Bae Soonmin and Dr. Yoon Sangdoo will present on the themes ‘Enabling Digital Transformation Beyond AI’ and ‘AI Research: Towards Robust and Strong Deep Learning Implementation,’ respectively, introducing AI technology development and industrial application status. Seven AI-specialized professors from UNIST will also present their latest research achievements.

The workshop will be conducted in English through a hybrid online/offline format and is open to professors, researchers, and students from UNIST and southeastern universities, as well as stakeholders from industry, local governments, and research institutions.

Registration is open until 6:00 PM on the 4th via the pre-registration link, and detailed information can be obtained by contacting the AI Innovation Park or the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence.

Sim Jaeyoung, head of the AI Innovation Park project team, which is organizing the event, said, “This workshop will further develop the AI capabilities of the southeastern region,” and added, “We hope it will continue to grow as a global academic conference involving both academia and industry.”

Since 2019, UNIST has selected AI as a key research area and has been fostering it.

In September 2020, the ‘Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence’ was established, and efforts are being made to develop advanced technologies and nurture core AI talent through the regional industrial innovation hub ‘AI Innovation Park’ and the industry workforce education program ‘AI Novatus Academia.’
