[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Kia has launched the fastest car in the history of Korean automobiles.

Kia announced on the 29th that it will release the high-performance electric vehicle 'The Kia EV6 GT' (hereinafter EV6 GT) starting Tuesday, the 4th of next month.

The EV6 GT is a high-performance version based on the dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP. By combining a significantly enhanced motor and a high-output battery compared to the EV6, it achieves the highest level of power performance ever.

The EV6 GT is offered in a single all-wheel-drive trim. It features a rear motor with a maximum output of 270kW and maximum torque of 390Nm, and a front motor with a maximum output of 160kW and maximum torque of 350Nm, totaling a combined maximum output of 430kW (585 horsepower) and maximum torque of 740Nm (75.5kgf·m).

This enables explosive acceleration performance, reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds, and dynamic driving performance with a top speed of 260 km/h. It also supports a 400·800V multi-charging system, allowing charging from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes when using the 800V ultra-fast charging system.

In particular, the EV6 GT is equipped with a dedicated driving mode that makes driving even more enjoyable. The 'GT Mode' automatically optimizes the motor, brakes, steering, dampers, and e-LSD to unleash the EV6 GT’s explosive acceleration and dynamic cornering and driving performance. GT Mode also introduces the RBM (Regenerative Braking Maximization) function for the first time in Hyundai Motor Group.

This function maximizes regenerative braking during deceleration in both everyday and dynamic driving, securing additional driving range compared to competing vehicles while reducing the use of conventional brakes. It also optimizes regenerative braking control for both front and rear wheels, enhancing braking performance.

Kia’s first-ever 'Drift Mode' is also applied. During cornering, it distributes maximum driving force to the rear motor to induce 'oversteer,' a phenomenon where the vehicle moves inward beyond the actual steering target, enabling enjoyable drift driving. Additionally, when exiting a corner, power is distributed to the front wheels, allowing the vehicle to exit curves faster than when power is only sent to the rear wheels.

Beyond functionality, specifications that satisfy the emotional aspects of a high-performance electric vehicle are also incorporated. The suede sports bucket seats, which emphasize the high-performance car image, enhance lateral body support to provide stability during high-speed and cornering driving. The active sound design (e-ASD), which adds an auditory driving experience with virtual sounds corresponding to speed and torque changes, allows drivers to feel the dynamic spirit of motorsports.

The price of the EV6 GT is 72 million KRW after a 3.5% individual consumption tax and tax benefits.

A Kia official stated, “The EV6 GT is the culmination of Kia’s leading EV technology and a high-performance model reflecting the needs of customers passionate about high-performance driving,” adding, “It will provide customers with an exhilarating driving experience unlike anything they have experienced before in their daily lives.”
