[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] The owner of the poodle trapped in a locker at Dongdaegu Station in Daegu was found after four days following a citizen's report. The owner was a man in his 20s with an intellectual disability.
On the 28th, the animal protection organization 'Animal Rights Group CARE' announced on their official Instagram, "A man in his 20s with an intellectual disability called Dongdaegu Station 87 hours after the poodle was abandoned, informing them that he had placed the poodle in the locker."
CARE stated, "If this man claims it was not abandonment, the dog must be returned to him," and added, "With the cooperation of Dong-gu Office, it was agreed that CARE would take custody of the dog."
They also explained, "It has not been confirmed that the abuser is indeed intellectually disabled," and "It is clear that if the poodle returns to the owner, greater abuse will occur."
Furthermore, they said, "The poodle was moved to an animal hospital for initial treatment, and the abuser's identity was secured. Administrative procedures will begin tomorrow," emphasizing, "If the poodle had not been found, it might have been trapped for more than 87 hours and could have been harmed. We will change the case from abandonment to physical abuse and file a new complaint."
Earlier, the dog was discovered on the 25th around 8 p.m. by a citizen who found it suspicious that moisture had accumulated inside the locker and water droplets were falling.
After receiving the citizen's report, the railway police, with the cooperation of Dongdaegu Station, opened the locker and rescued the dog. The dog, showing signs of dehydration at the time, was transferred to an animal shelter in Daegu for treatment.
