[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 28th, 39 members of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, including Chairman Kim Hyun-ki (People Power Party, Gangnam 3rd District), attended the "Love Organ Donation Hope Registration Ceremony" hosted by the Love Organ Donation Movement Headquarters on the first floor of the Seoul Metropolitan Council main building.

Chairman Kim stated, "Organ donation signifies someone's death, but in another sense, it is the act of reviving someone," expressing his commitment to promoting organ donation.

At the event, besides Chairman Kim Hyun-ki, Vice Chairmen Nam Chang-jin and Woo Hyung-chan, and Operations Committee Chairman Park Hwan-hee attended, with 16 council members newly participating in the organ donation hope registration. Additionally, 23 members who had previously pledged organ donation were present on site.

Chairman Kim emphasized, "In Switzerland, citizens aged 16 and over are, in principle, considered to have consented to organ donation, and only those who do not wish to donate go through a refusal procedure," adding, "Our country also needs institutional improvements and support to establish a culture of organ donation."

The organ donation hope registration rate among the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council members is 34% out of 112 members, significantly exceeding Seoul's general hope registration rate of 4.1% (as of the end of 2020).

Chairman Kim Hyun-ki said, "Although a bill to amend the ordinance concerning the treatment and support of organ donors was proposed in our council, it was discarded due to the expiration of the term," stressing, "Everyone must unite their will to establish organ donation, and national consensus is urgently needed."
