[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 28th that it will hold the ‘Employee Parents Invitation Appreciation Day’ event, inviting 100 parents of employees for a 1-night, 2-day event to express gratitude and create meaningful memories.

Now in its 7th year, the ‘Employee Family Event’ is part of LG Uplus’s family-friendly program. Since 2016, it has been held to express gratitude to employees’ parents for raising talented individuals who joined the company and to foster a sense of belonging and pride among employees.

On the first day, the employees’ parents visited the LG Uplus Yongsan headquarters, touring the office environment as well as welfare facilities such as the in-house daycare center, fitness center, and meditation room, allowing them to better understand the company where their children work.

After the headquarters tour, they visited the Blue House and Namsan N Seoul Tower, and ended the day at the Gonjiam Resort located in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province. On the second day, they planned to enjoy a walk and take commemorative photos at the Hwadam Forest Ecological Arboretum, creating joyful memories.

One parent who participated in the event said, “Thanks to my daughter working at LG Uplus, I was able to spend a good time after a long while,” adding, “Seeing my daughter working at such a great company makes me proud.”

In addition to the ‘Parents Invitation Appreciation Day,’ LG Uplus operates family-friendly programs that have received high praise from employees, including the ‘CEO Congratulatory Gift’ which provides necessary items at the time of employees’ children’s birth and school entrance, ‘Happiness Plus’ which allows employees to leave work two hours early on their own and family anniversaries, and the ‘Leader Package’ which supports leader-level employees to rest with their families at 5-star hotels once a year.

For employees expecting childbirth, LG Uplus also implements measures such as a two-hour reduction in working hours per day, support for medical examination leave, up to six months of unpaid maternity leave, childcare leave during pregnancy, up to 90 days of maternity leave, and up to one year of childcare leave.

Jung Ji-hyun, LG Uplus HR Director (Executive Director), said, “We prepared this event with gratitude to the parents who raised outstanding talents,” adding, “We will continue to expand a family-friendly organizational culture so that employees can receive respect and support for the company from their families.”

Meanwhile, LG Uplus was certified as a ‘Family-Friendly Company’ for the fourth time by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in December last year. The family-friendly certification is a system where the Ministry grants certification to companies and public institutions that operate exemplary systems for supporting childbirth and child-rearing and fostering a family-friendly culture. LG Uplus first received the family-friendly company certification in 2010 and has been re-certified every three years since then.
