[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do opened the 5th customized youth housing "Geobuk-i Jip" in Sacheon City on the 28th, following Changwon, Gimhae, and Goseong.
The opening ceremony was attended by Choi Man-rim, Deputy Governor, Park Dong-sik, Mayor of Sacheon, Kim Hyun-cheol, Provincial Assembly member, Yoon Hyung-geun, Chairman of Sacheon City Council, Jeon Jae-seok and Park Jeong-ung, City Council members, resident youth, and local residents.
Sacheon City announced that to reduce the housing cost burden for youth, it utilized city-owned land in Yonggang-dong and carried out design services and new construction from May 2021 to September 2022.
According to the province, the first floor of Geobuk-i Jip 5 consists of a youth community space, shared kitchen, and shared living room, while the second and third floors have 12 residential units, each with a single room for one person.
The residential units are equipped with private spaces including individual bathrooms, and furnished with household items such as refrigerators, washing machines, beds, and wardrobes.
Geobuk-i Jip 5 is scheduled to house 12 young residents starting in October, with a net area of 30㎡, a rental deposit of 1 million KRW, and a monthly rent of 150,000 KRW.
The rental period is initially 2 years, with a maximum stay of up to 6 years.
Gyeongnam Province stated that since 2020, it has been implementing a customized youth housing project through the first city-county public contest method to stabilize youth housing and revitalize the region.
The project has been promoted with Goseong County and Sacheon City selected as the two city-county targets.
Since November 2020 until this year's completion, the province operated a working council led by public architects of Gyeongsangnam-do, including Professor Yoo Jin-sang of Changwon National University and local architect Choi Yong-jun, and reflected youth opinions from the Sacheon City Youth Policy Network in the project.
The 6th Geobuk-i Jip to be established in Geoje City and the 7th Geobuk-i Jip to be built in Jinju City are currently underway and are scheduled to open sequentially in 2023, the province added.
Deputy Governor Choi said, “Our province is striving to improve youth housing welfare through expanding youth housing Geobuk-i Jip, housing supply, and financial support such as interest and return guarantees,” adding, “We will view policies from the youth perspective and create a Gyeongnam where youth want to live.”
A, a prospective resident of the 5th Geobuk-i Jip, said, “It is affordable and comfortable housing where I can live with other residents, so I do not feel lonely and feel secure,” and added, “I hope many affordable and quality youth housing units will be built in locations with good living conditions in the future.”
