[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The Democratic Party of Korea has filed a complaint with the police against Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon for spreading false information.

On the 28th, Floor Spokesperson Oh Young-hwan and Secretary General Jeon Yong-gi filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Minister Han for defamation by spreading false information and defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. This was due to Minister Han spreading false information during all testimonies related to the Constitutional Court's jurisdictional dispute trial on the legislation of 'Geomsu Wanbak' (complete removal of prosecution's investigative authority) the previous day.

In a briefing regarding the complaint, Spokesperson Oh stated, “Minister Han, in all testimonies during the jurisdictional dispute trial, stated that ‘Democratic Party Floor Leader Park Hong-geun publicly declared and promoted legislation claiming separation of investigative authority from the prosecution, vowing to protect former President Moon Jae-in and Assemblyman Lee Jae-myung, thereby protecting certain politicians.’ This is a clear case of spreading false information.”

He continued, “Even if Minister Han did not explicitly state this content in a definitive manner, he connected the complainant (Floor Leader Park Hong-geun)'s remarks out of context by presupposing that the relevant legal amendment was made with a wrongful intent to evade criminal investigations.”

Spokesperson Oh also argued that Minister Han’s remarks during the public hearing constitute defamation. He said, “Minister Han’s making such statements during the public hearing and posting related content on the Ministry of Justice’s website constitutes defamation by spreading false information under the Information and Communications Network Act.”
