[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] POSCO has started supporting childcare by gifting a van to an employee who gave birth to 'quadruplets.'
On the 28th, POSCO delivered a 9-seater van to Kim Hwan, a staff member of the Hwaseong Department at the Pohang Steelworks, who gave birth to quadruplets, at the POSCO Center in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Kim's wife, Park Doo-re, gave birth to quadruplets naturally last month, the first case in Korea. The probability of conceiving quadruplets is one in a million, and the chance of simultaneously conceiving two sets of identical twins is one in seventy million.
POSCO is providing various supports to ease the burden on Kim, who is raising the first child born last year along with the quadruplets.
They have provided a childbirth incentive of 20 million KRW through the company’s childbirth-friendly system and childcare products worth about 2 million KRW as congratulations from employees. Additionally, child care services will be provided until the quadruplets celebrate their first birthday.
POSCO employees are also sending congratulations and encouragement to the quadruplets. Through internal communication channels such as POSCO Today, employees have called the birth of Kim Hwan’s quadruplets a miracle and have continued to send congratulatory messages even during flood recovery work.
Kim Hwan said, "I wanted to have many children even before marriage, but after having the first child, I was shaken by the difficulties of childcare. Then the quadruplets came. I think of them as gifts and will raise them happily." He added, "When I took parental leave after the first child was born, the factory manager and colleagues all encouraged me to focus on childcare, which was a great support. Many people sent words of encouragement and support after hearing the news of the quadruplets," expressing his gratitude.
