Farmers in Ipam-myeon, Yeongyang-gun, Conduct Direct Sales of Agricultural and Specialty Products in Pohang and Donate Typhoon Relief Funds

Residents of Ipam-myeon, Yeongyang-gun, held a direct transaction event in Pohang.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwi-yeol] Farmers from Ipam-myeon, Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk, rushed to Pohang City and displayed the crops they personally cultivated.

On the 28th, the Ipam-myeon Office held a promotional and direct sales event for agricultural and specialty products of Yeongyang-gun in Jigok-dong, Nam-gu, Pohang City, together with the Daecheon Chili Pepper Farming Group of Ipam-myeon and local apple and mushroom farms.

This event is a project to revitalize direct sales events that had been suspended for the past few years due to COVID-19.

The farms and five village associations in Jigok-dong helped with the event, selling Yeongyang-gun’s representative agricultural products such as chili peppers, as well as fruits, mushrooms, honey, and sesame at discounted prices without distribution margins.

Cheongsong-Yeongyang Livestock Cooperative also participated, offering Korean beef at prices 20% lower than the market price.

The direct sales event has established itself as a mutually satisfying model where farmers increase their sales channels and income, and local residents can purchase high-quality agricultural and specialty products at affordable prices.

The 500,000 won raised by the Ipam-myeon Office and the Village Chiefs’ Association, along with 100 trays of native eggs donated by Cheongsong-Yeongyang Livestock Cooperative, were delivered to Pohang City, which suffered typhoon damage.

Shin Jae-seong, head of Ipam-myeon, Yeongyang-gun, said, “Despite an unprecedented spring drought and frequent rains during the harvest season making it a difficult year, we are very pleased to have harvested excellent agricultural and specialty products and be able to sell them to urban consumers.”

He added, “Although there are difficulties in typhoon damage recovery, I am grateful to the residents of Jigok-dong who helped prepare the event together.”
