Gwangju Dong-gu Begins Full Operation of Jisan-dong and Hakun-dong Public Parking Lots

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 28th that it will create public parking lots in Jisan-dong and Hagun-dong to alleviate parking difficulties in the old downtown area and will begin full-scale operation.

Dong-gu invested a budget of 7.7 billion KRW, including national funds and city-gu funds, to create 33 parking spaces around the courthouse and prosecutor's office in Jisan-dong and 40 parking spaces around the commercial area on Uijae-ro in Hagun-dong, completing the construction.

The public parking lots in Jisan-dong and Hagun-dong will operate as paid parking during weekday daytime hours to improve parking turnover rates.

They will be open free of charge during weekday nights (6 PM to 8 AM the next day), weekends, and public holidays to provide parking convenience for local residents and visitors to the commercial areas.

When using the public parking lots operated by an unmanned parking system, payment can be made by credit or debit card.

Im Taek, the head of Dong-gu Office, said, “I hope the public parking lots created in Jisan-dong and Hagun-dong will help resolve residents' parking inconveniences and revitalize the local commercial districts,” adding, “We will continue to expand public parking lots in areas lacking parking spaces to make Dong-gu a better place for residents to live.”
