Suwon 'Tongdak Street Festival' to be Held for the First Time in 7 Years... September 30 to October 2

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Chicken Street Festival is returning to Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, after 7 years.

Suwon City announced on the 28th that it will hold the '2022 Suwon Chicken Street Festival, Falling for Chicken' from the 30th of this month to the 2nd of next month in the Suwon Chicken Street area. This festival is being held for the first time in 7 years since the inaugural event in 2015.

This year's event will begin at 5:30 PM on the 30th at the main stage in front of Namsugyo Bridge with performances by the Suwon City Performance Group and a Dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) mixing performance. Singers Jang Min-ho, Punch, Ha-yul, and Lyn will give congratulatory performances.

Throughout the festival period, various events and performances that citizens can participate in will take place on Chicken Street.

Major events include ▲'Guess the Chicken Street Restaurant Names' where participants quickly memorize the names of chicken restaurants ▲a relay quiz to identify people in photos within 3 seconds ▲and 'Catch a Verse!' where participants listen to a prepared music snippet and sing along, all part of the 'Falling for Games' program. Winners will receive chicken gift certificates.

The Haenggung Cultural Street Merchants Association will organize street events during the festival such as ▲Pierrot magic balloons ▲Chicken Street buskers ▲street magic shows ▲caricatures ▲face painting ▲color bead experiences ▲clay art experiences ▲and a Chicken Street flea market.

A city official stated, "We will promote chicken, one of Suwon's representative foods, to help revitalize the local economy, which has been sluggish," adding, "We will provide various attractions to tourists by linking the festival with the 2022 World Heritage Festival and the Suwon Hwaseong Media Art Show."
