In the construction industry, 766 people have died and 15,796 have been injured over the past three years. The most frequent type of accident was falls.


According to data on 'Construction Site Safety Accident Status' submitted by the Korea Land and Housing Safety Management Institute to Han Junho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, a total of 16,562 people have died or been injured in construction site accidents over the past three years.


When analyzing fatal accidents by type, falls were the most frequent. Among all accident types, there were 369 fall accidents, accounting for 53.6% of the total 688 fatal accidents. This was followed by being crushed (123 cases, 17.9%), being struck by objects (74 cases, 10.8%), and being caught in machinery (34 cases, 4.9%), which also occurred frequently.

Since falls were the most frequent accidents, the number of deaths from falls was also the highest. Over the past three years, 384 people died from falls, while 141 died from being crushed by heavy objects and 75 from being struck by objects.


The most common cause of injury accidents was 'tripping,' with 3,515 incidents resulting in 3,526 injuries. During the same period, there were 2,541 fall accidents at construction sites, and a significant number of accidents involved being struck by objects (2,198 cases) or caught in machinery (1,588 cases).


Representative Han said, "To reduce safety accidents at construction sites, it is essential to thoroughly investigate the facts and analyze the root causes of accidents." He added, "We must promptly strengthen the capacity to understand the actual conditions of construction site accidents and prepare special measures to prevent similar accidents."
