[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lotte Homeshopping announced on the 28th that it created the 5th eco-friendly green space for fine dust reduction, ‘Sum Pyeonhan Forest,’ at Songpa Naru Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and held a completion ceremony.

The event was attended by Lee Donggyu, Head of ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) at Lotte Homeshopping, Kang Sujeong, Director of the Environmental Foundation, Jeong Sangbeom, Head of the Park and Greenery Division at Songpa District Office, and other officials. Lotte Homeshopping is conducting a project to create green spaces in urban areas to reduce fine dust, and this time completed the 5th urban forest at Songpa Naru Park in Songpa-gu. A total of 1,500 trees were planted, and walking paths were created to provide an eco-friendly resting place in the city. In addition, a public sculpture of the popular character Bellygom was installed to deliver a message encouraging citizens visiting the park to participate in environmental protection. Furthermore, to commemorate the creation of the urban forest, a ‘My Tree Ownership Campaign’ was held, distributing 300 fine dust purifying plants to citizens.

In December 2020, Lotte Homeshopping signed a business agreement with the Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Foundation to protect vulnerable groups from fine dust and respond to the climate crisis. Accordingly, they are carrying out planting trees in fine dust intensive management zones and providing citizen convenience facilities until 2025. Following the completion of the 5th forest, the 6th forest is scheduled to be completed early next month in Yangpyeong-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu.

Additionally, various ESG activities to improve environmental issues are being carried out, such as promoting the construction of the eco-friendly learning space ‘Small Library No. 73’ in the outdoor area of Namsan Library by recycling banners and discarded clothing into upcycled textile panels.

Lee Donggyu, Head of ESG at Lotte Homeshopping, said, “We are pleased to complete the 5th Sum Pyeonhan Forest, an eco-friendly green space that reduces fine dust in the city and provides convenience facilities to citizens,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen ESG management through various activities to solve environmental problems.”
