Suspect Arrested in Seoul Sillim-dong Gosiwon Murder Case... Male Tenant in His 30s

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A suspect accused of murdering a 70-year-old building owner at a goshiwon in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, has been apprehended by the police.

The Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced on the 28th that they have urgently arrested and are investigating a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on suspicion of murder.

Mr. A is suspected of killing the building owner, Mr. B (74), at a goshiwon in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the previous day and fleeing the scene. It was revealed that Mr. A was a tenant of the goshiwon operated by the victim.

The police received a report around 12:48 PM the previous day that Mr. B was found dead in the basement floor of the four-story goshiwon.

Mr. B’s older brother, who visited the goshiwon, was the first to discover the body and reported it to the police. At the time of discovery, Mr. B was found lying on the bed with his neck strangled, hands tied, and various bindings on his body.

Mr. B was the building owner of the goshiwon and was living in the building with his son. During the police investigation, Mr. B’s son stated, "My mother was alive when I left for work in the morning."

Based on the condition of the body at the time of discovery and the son’s testimony, the police focused the investigation on the possibility of homicide.

After the crime, the police tracked Mr. A’s movements through closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other means, and arrested him around 10 PM the same day at a sauna located in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.

A police official stated, "The detailed motive for the crime is still under investigation," and added, "We plan to apply for an arrest warrant as soon as the investigation is completed."

Meanwhile, an autopsy on the victim is scheduled to be conducted at the National Forensic Service on the morning of the 28th.
