[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] On the morning of the 27th at 10 a.m., the ‘31st Dongdaemun District Residents' Day’ commemorative event was held at Yongdu Neighborhood Park.
To enhance pride and affection for the region and to create a venue for residents' unity, Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilhyung Lee) prepared this event, which was attended by about 500 people including Mayor Ilhyung Lee of Dongdaemun-gu, local members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, heads of institutions and organizations, and residents.
Before the main event, the classical ensemble ‘Arang’ performed, followed by the official commemorative ceremony. In his commemorative speech, Mayor Ilhyung Lee stated, “Dongdaemun-gu will tirelessly open new paths so that it can become not only the central city of Seoul but also a premium city of South Korea.” Then, local members of the National Assembly and the chairman of the Dongdaemun District Council gave congratulatory speeches, and congratulatory messages from heads of sister city organizations were also screened.
The event also included the ‘Resident Award Ceremony’ honoring residents who have devoted themselves and served as role models in the community across various fields. A total of 14 awardees were recognized: ▲The Proud Resident Award Grand Prize went to Mr. Haksoo Kim of Dapsimni 1-dong, and the Gold Prize to Ms. Okbun Lee of Dapsimni 2-dong; ▲The Parent Award Grand Prize to Mr. Gyosik Choi of Hwikyung 1-dong, and the Gold Prize to Mr. Eung Han of Yongsin-dong; ▲The Filial Piety Award Grand Prize to Ms. Myunghee Seo of Imun 1-dong, and the Gold Prize to Ms. Youngae Han of Jangan 1-dong; ▲The Volunteer Award Grand Prize to the Volunteer Camp of Dapsimni 1-dong, and the Gold Prize to Ms. Sukja Namgung of Cheongnyangni-dong; ▲The Model Youth Award Grand Prize to second-year student Junseong Park of Mirae Industrial Science High School, and the Gold Prize to first-year student Sumin Lee of Hana High School; ▲The Disabled Person Award Grand Prize to Ms. Juok Kwon of Hwikyung 2-dong, and the Gold Prize to Mr. Suhun Lee of Jegi-dong; ▲The Multicultural Family Award Grand Prize to Ms. Geum Park of Yongsin-dong, and the Gold Prize to Ms. Hongxia Wei of Cheongnyangni-dong.
Following this, the resident performance team Black Ta Queens gave a Nanta performance, the Cheongryong Dance Troupe (folk performance) presented a congratulatory performance, and the District Women’s Choir sang a celebratory song. During the performances, Choi Wanjeong, a Dongdaemun-gu public relations ambassador and actress-singer who hosted the event, also sang a celebratory song, adding to the festive atmosphere.
On the afternoon of the 27th, Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Hogwon Choi took a commemorative photo with attendees including Vice Pastor Kwanghyun Yoon at the ‘Donation Ceremony for Vulnerable Groups in Flood-Affected Areas’ held in the mayor’s office of Yeouido Full Gospel Church.
Yeouido Full Gospel Church donated 10 million won on this day, and the donation will be used through the Community Chest of Korea to help vulnerable groups affected by the flood overcome difficulties and support a swift return to daily life.
Mayor Choi Hogwon expressed, “I deeply appreciate the warm hands and positive influence for the local community,” and added, “The district will also do its best to ensure the prompt recovery of residents’ damages.”
Gangnam-gu (Mayor Seongmyeong Jo) signed a business agreement on the 27th at Gangnam-gu Office with Samhwa Paint (CEO Jinsu Oh) to promote ESG projects for sustainable development.
Through this agreement, Gangnam-gu plans to jointly promote ESG projects with Samhwa Paint in various fields such as environmental improvement, public design, and culture and arts.
On the 27th, Kim Taewoo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, spent time communicating with the Tongjang Council, which acts as a bridge between the district office and residents by promoting district administration and collecting residents’ opinions.
Mayor Kim attended the ‘Tongjang Council Regular Meeting’ held in the district office’s large conference room in the afternoon and conducted a Q&A session.
When representatives from each neighborhood asked about daily inconveniences and local issues, Mayor Kim answered each question on the spot. For matters requiring comprehensive review, he promised to provide answers after consultation with relevant departments, and for issues that could be resolved immediately, he pledged to address them on the spot.
The ‘Tongjang Council Regular Meeting,’ attended by about 20 people including Mayor Kim and neighborhood representatives, proceeded with the agenda of ▲Q&A with the mayor and ▲discussion on the operation direction of the Tongjang Council.
Mayor Kim said, “I deeply appreciate the hard work of the Tongjangs who serve as the link between the district office and residents on the front lines of resident administration and dedicate themselves to the development of the local community.” He continued, “Please actively help spread important district administration news closely related to residents’ lives, such as redevelopment and reconstruction information for improving residential environments in the original downtown areas like Hwagok-dong and Banghwa-dong, news about Magok Cultural Street transforming into a street of youth and arts, and the National Assembly Road upper park creation project for improving the pleasant residential environment in Hwagok-dong.”
